As of today Feb 9th, 2017 there are only 150 cosponsors of the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 (H.R38), 148 Republicans and 2 Democrats. This should be a clue to us the “party of the people” the inclusive party is still stuck in the 1640s living the Jim Crow dream. It’s apparent to me that these Democrats will fight this tooth and nail in the coming months and maybe years. If for some miracle we are lucky enough to get this bill pass the house and senate and onto President Trump’s desks, we should have no problem getting him to sign off on it.
But here is where my biggest fear lies, I worry about the individual states. States like NY, NJ, MD etc. We Second Amendment Advocates know these states in question violate our constitutional rights daily and face little to no consequences. Take for instance the immigration laws. Sanctuary Cities are a violation of federal law but the above mention states violate this law without regard for its legal citizens or the country on a whole, case and point Kate Steinle.
Another instance is the constant violation of The Firearm Owners’ Protection Act of 1986 (FOPA) “Safe Passage” provision.
One of the law’s provisions was that persons traveling from one place to another cannot be incarcerated for a firearms offense in a state that has strict gun control laws if the traveler is just passing through (short stops for food and gas), provided that the firearms and ammunition are not immediately accessible, that the firearms are unloaded and, in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment, the firearms are located in a locked container.
States like NY and NJ are big repeat offenders of violating this federal law. Gregg C. Revell is just one of NJ’s victims along with Keenan Draughon, the list goes on and on. The only way I see this law being enforced is if a case is brought to the supreme court and states like NJ and NJ are forced to comply with H.R.38.
