A Sparta man was arrested on charges including possession of armor piercing bullets and a handgun after Transportation Security Administration officers found the items in his carry-on bag, police said.
Voight C. Kempson, 57, also was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
At approximately 9:20 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, Port Authority police responded to a screening point in Terminal C for a report of a pistol in a carry-on bag, a Port Authority Police spokesman said.
According to a TSA press release, officers discovered a 9 mm handgun with six bullets in Kempson’s carry-on as it went through an X-ray machine.
Port Authority police identified the gun as a black Kahr CM9 pistol with five Speer jacketed hollow-point bullets in the gun’s magazine and one in the chamber.
